"Over the Edge" Author

"From the Board room to a Namibian PRISON in a foreign country"

Join me on my odyssey as a father, propelled by unshakable determination and a fearless attitude towards taking risks. I was willing to risk my life to recover my son from South Africa, a place where child abduction is a harsh reality. My memoir depicts how I survived in Africa, relying on my fierce survival instincts that pushed me beyond my own limits—all for the sake of my child. When pushed to the edge, even the most ordinary person can unleash a primal will to survive—capable of ruthless acts. Not a CIA agent, but trained in mercenary survival, I learned to navigate the lethal streets and wild bushlands of South Africa, where every step could mean life or death.

I am an everyman who found himself in an extraordinary situation. We all possess primal survival instincts, and when our children are in danger, you do whatever it takes to protect them, especially in the face of parental kidnapping recovery.

With a career spanning over two and a half decades, Hal boasts extensive expertise in the corporate sector, having served middle-market and multinational Fortune 500 companies by offering invaluable strategic advisory and mergers & acquisition solutions.

Hal's career in the field of mergers & acquisitions developed as a visionary, creating and selling startup enterprises to both private equity firms and publicly traded corporations. In 2003, he established Marina Capital Group (MCG), a company specializing in mergers and acquisitions, as well as providing strategic consulting services.

Following his son's successful recovery from a kidnapping in 2006, Mr. Berger established the Global Missing Children Fund, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing, preventing, and providing assistance to children and parents who have been victimized by international parental child abduction. The organization works with and without government agencies for the recovery of internationally kidnapped children.

Hal, a native of Pittsburgh, came into this world with a love for running and the great outdoors. Despite now living in a tranquil beach town near Los Angeles with his family, he remains a devoted fan of the Steelers.
